Mandates and Objectives

Scope of SMIMS MEDU activities:
The activities of SMIMS Medical Education Unit would basically target capacity building of faculty members of medical sciences and allied health sciences. The aim of MEDU is to foster those specific teaching skills to the faculty members thereby enhancing the learning experiences of the prospective health professionals.

Mandate 1: Faculty Development Program
Objectives

1. To foster capacity building of health professional teachers for their role as teachers / facilitators of the teaching - learning process.
2. To train the health professional teachers acquire basic and advanced skills of teaching practice.
3. To train the health professional teachers understand their learners learning style and behavior so as to align their teaching strategies accordingly. 
4. To train teacher on various teaching - learning methodologies.
5. To continuously update the health professional teachers on the changing trends in health professional education.

Mandate 2: Student Development Program
Objectives

1. To make the students appreciate their learning styles and behavior so as to seek appropriate guidance and facilitation from their teacher / facilitator.
2. To train the students acquire soft skills on professionalism, communication skills, inter-personal relationship etc.
3. To train the students in self directed learning.
4. To direct the students learning through CBL and PBL. 

Mandate 3: Repository of resources
Objectives

1. To develop a pooled repository of resources on health professional education.
2. To develop a virtual library on health professional education resources.

Mandate 4: Networking of Faculty
Objectives

1. To establish a network of health professional educators across disciplines within and outside the institute.
2. To have focused discussion in the forum of network on health professional education issues. 

Mandate 5: Academic Research
Objectives

1. To encourage health professional educators undertake academic research to test efficacy of specific teaching-learning methodologies.
2. To promote academic research interest among health professional educators.

Mandate 6: Communication & Networking with Stakeholders
Objectives

1. To communicate and network with stakeholders through publication of newsletter and magazines.
